Ice Cream Time

Having ice cream while catching up with some of my friends last week was fun. We laughed so hard. I love it! To hang out with friends that give you an honest heart and make you laugh that is another nice blessing in your life.

I love all the detail pictures of this shoot. I couldn’t make my decision, so I shared them all :)

In this outfit, I wanted to get way from color, and go back to basic black and grey. When you do this…make sure your outfit has great details or great elements, so it won’t be boring. A little touch of glamorous red lipstick, and these red Bordeaux sunglasses are a perfect touch.

Wearing: Kelly Wearstler metallic grey top, shorts from Tobi site, Fleet Ilya belt, Celine sunnies, Jimmy Choo bootie, Iosselliani necklace from Barneys, stud bracelet from flea market in Paris, stone bracelets ??, and McQueen skull double wrap bracelet and skull ring.

Thank you so much for visiting! Have a wonderful day! xo…Hanh :)

Whimsy

When Scot shot this look, he said that he loves the dramatic color of this one. That’s right, dramatic yet whimsical, that was what I intended for this look-mixing sequine, glitter, sparkle… adding some whimsy to it. The different textures here, the whimsy of these Charlotte Olympia Anastasia heels completed my intention, and the vintage Persian necklace enhanced it so well.

Wearing: Markus Lupfer blouse, Miu Miu bloomers, Charlotte Olympia heels, Chanel bag, Sue Gragg ring, vintage Persian necklace, and Thierry Larsy sunglasses.

Me and my girl. It’s so cool and exciting to be in the opening page of Mom Crush.

(1) Hanh and her girls wear colorful collections of bracelets. Chloe designed Hanh’s heart-shaped ring. (2) Hanh and her husband purchased the Murano glass chandelier in Venice. “We went back and forth so many times to the store to see it. It was before we actually had a house.” (3) Hanh’s older brother made the “21”print as a wedding gift for Hanh and her husband. (4) Emma and Chloe love creating fashion sketches and art projects. (5) Hanh pairs t-shirts from Madewell with heirloom pieces like her Balenciaga vest. (6) Hanh keeps provisions for her weekly Saturday family feasts at the ready.

Mom Crush: Four Women Changing Dallas

They do interesting work, possess serious style, and are changing our city. And they just so happen to be moms. We took a peek inside their worlds to see how they do it.

MOM CRUSH NO. 1 Hanh Merriman

New York Times street style photographer Bill Cunningham is selective about the people he snaps. But on a trip to Fashion Week this year, Hanh Merriman made the cut.  Cunningham photographed her wearing a mix of Jean Paul Gaultier, Rick Owens, and Comme des Garçons. The famously circumspect photographer even threw in a compliment.

That Hanh considers this “a moment I will adore forever” underscores a reverence for fashion that goes back to her childhood in rural Vietnam, when her reward for perfect grades was a trip to the city to see the latest clothes. Suffice it to say, she studied relentlessly.

In 1994, Hanh moved to Dallas to reunite with her family and study business management. She also took a job at a salon. There, a client introduced her to, winemaker Mike Merriman, and after two years of his mannered persistence, Hanh agreed to a lunch date. They married in 2000, and have two daughters, 8-year-old Chloe and 10-year-old Emma.

Both girls possess their mother’s eye for fashion, mixing styles and sketching outfits they’d someday like to create. On mother/daughter shopping pilgrimages Hanh encourages them to “buy only what you really love, don’t settle for something you just like, no matter the price.” When Hanh isn’t talking fashion, she’s playing badminton with the girls (their favorite pastime) or cooking weekly Saturday feasts for her extended family of more than 20. She also plans learning trips for the family, seeing “vacation as a time for the girls to get excited about new things.” They’ve made pasta in Venice, taken acting classes in New York, and watched whales in Vancouver.

Three years ago, Hanh launched her blog, Life in Travel, to chronicle her dual passions. Posts featuring her artful ensembles are shown alongside images of the family hiking and picking cherries in Portland. In fashion and life, she says, “You have to play and be adventurous, but not take it too seriously. Fashion is fun, but family is what’s really important.”

Gunmetal Grey

Wore this casual look for a happy hour with my husband the other day. The weather in Dallas is odd. It was cool enough to have a jacket.  The heat is up again today, but I’m glad it’s not 100F.

Wearing: Rick Owens jacket, Kelly Wearstler metallic gunmetal tank (or from Five And Ten), Current Elillott jeans, Celine sunnies, Louis Vuitton pre-fall 2012 pumps (similar here), The Woods necklace, and vintage Tibetan cuff.

Thank you everyone for visiting! Have a lovely day! xo…Hanh :)

Kiss Me NYC

It was a rainy afternoon in NYC, during New York fashion week – on and off while we were doing this shoot. Wearing the ‘Kiss Me Look’ and shooting in the rain made me feel like Carrie Bradshaw in a scene from ‘Sex and the City’ :)

I was so lucky to run into Jason. He is my friend’s friend and a talented photographer at Table4. Yes, he managed his time to shoot a couple outfits for me. Check out his site here, you will find his beautiful work.

Wearing: red lips tank from NastyGal.com, Palmer Harding skirt from FortyFiveTen, Miumiu bag and collar faux fur, Charlotte Olympia kiss me pumps, Eddie Borgo gold cuff, Hermes leather bracelet, Sue Gragg ring, and Nina Ricci sunnies.

Urban Girl, Tough and Soft

When these Balenciaga boots came out for spring 2011, I loved them at first sight but wasn’t sure if I could pull it off. They’re hot boots for sure and Balenciaga has produced them again and again. By the time I wanted them, my size was gone. This time, I didn’t want to miss my chance. I love them so much! They’re actually not too heavy like I thought, in fact they’re so comfy-kinda feeling cushion inside. It’s very cool style that you can pair them with any look. Here, I styled my feminine dress with a twist of masculine from my boots to give this look a new level of strong-minded urban girl style. And my handbag played very well in its roll for this look.

Wearing: Junya Watanabe dress from FortyFiveTen, Margiela nude body suit underneath, Balenciaga boots, Celine sunnies (similar here), vintage Comme des Garcons bag, Fenton Fallon long necklace, Kelly Wearstler pendant necklace, and Rebecca Lankford bracelets from FortyFiveTen (you might find similar here, here, here and here)

Photography by Jason Huang from Table4. Jason is a cool, young, and talented photographer. Although I just met him, but he seems like a fun guy to hang out with. He is addicted to Angry Birds. Lol!! …because I do too. Please, make sure check out his site.

Thank you everyone for visiting! Have a wonderful day!! xo…Hanh :)

New York Fashion Week Street Style S/S 2013 Part 2

I was in NYC a few days for fashion week. Couldn’t stay too long not only because my family, my kids need me, but also I will miss them madly. Fashion week in New York was crazy-full of people, cabs, shows, fashion bloggers, street style photographers, press, editors, buyers…all over Lincoln center, Milk Studio, Chelsea Market, Meatpacking District,…I managed to shoot some pictures of street style to share, if you missed last street style post, check it out here. And here are a few more shots. Hope you enjoy! xo…Hanh :)

Water Dragon

I named this post ‘Water Dragon’ because it seemed this dragon brought the rain over New York city. Yet, Chinese dragon is a powerful symbol, and these Christian Louboutin pumps are very special. They’re limited edition for Fashion Night Out 2012, and only available at selected locations. A dragon embroidered in black velvet with red stone eyes are amazing. The other side is his tail. I can’t wait to share the whole look.

Thank you everyone for visiting! Have a lovely weekend!! xo…Hanh :)
