StyledOn In Style for Fall 2012

I’m so flattered that I was featured in StyleOn! (here is previous article). They have considered me one of their favorite girls of Blog Loves. StyledOn has recently invited me to pick my top fall 2012 must-haves for their article “StyledOn Six: Blog Love’s Top Picks For Fall“. Thank you StyledOn and Ashley Ryan for the chance. It’s always pleasant working with you! So here are my top picks.

A leather jacket that walks the line between opulence and edgy is a must have. You will never go wrong with this Rick Owens jacket that everyone should have in their closets. The shearling of the jacket adds the luxury element. This jacket is a versatile one that you could pair with jeans, leggings, or evn a feminine dress to add a little dark romance.

Lace up booties are so sexy and classic. You always need them for the cold weather. I love shoes that have metal-piece decorations, doesn’t matter if it decorates at the toe or the heel. The metal element is just so in. And these Miu Miu booties are perfect for all of those, yet they are a versatile pair.

This fall, the velvet should do the trick. The jewel tone rich ruby reds, deep sapphires, and emerald green are hot colors this season. You can’t say no to this Junya Watanabe dress. Its sapphire color, the cut, the shape are just gorgeous. You can dress it up or down with different shoes. In fact, you could wear it daytime. It made number one outfit idea to steal out of 68 outfits from NYFW Spring 2013 according to Glamour Magazine when they posted me in front of Lincoln Center (see here).

Me and my girl. It’s so cool and exciting to be in the opening page of Mom Crush.

(1) Hanh and her girls wear colorful collections of bracelets. Chloe designed Hanh’s heart-shaped ring. (2) Hanh and her husband purchased the Murano glass chandelier in Venice. “We went back and forth so many times to the store to see it. It was before we actually had a house.” (3) Hanh’s older brother made the “21”print as a wedding gift for Hanh and her husband. (4) Emma and Chloe love creating fashion sketches and art projects. (5) Hanh pairs t-shirts from Madewell with heirloom pieces like her Balenciaga vest. (6) Hanh keeps provisions for her weekly Saturday family feasts at the ready.

Mom Crush: Four Women Changing Dallas

They do interesting work, possess serious style, and are changing our city. And they just so happen to be moms. We took a peek inside their worlds to see how they do it.

MOM CRUSH NO. 1 Hanh Merriman

New York Times street style photographer Bill Cunningham is selective about the people he snaps. But on a trip to Fashion Week this year, Hanh Merriman made the cut.  Cunningham photographed her wearing a mix of Jean Paul Gaultier, Rick Owens, and Comme des Garçons. The famously circumspect photographer even threw in a compliment.

That Hanh considers this “a moment I will adore forever” underscores a reverence for fashion that goes back to her childhood in rural Vietnam, when her reward for perfect grades was a trip to the city to see the latest clothes. Suffice it to say, she studied relentlessly.

In 1994, Hanh moved to Dallas to reunite with her family and study business management. She also took a job at a salon. There, a client introduced her to, winemaker Mike Merriman, and after two years of his mannered persistence, Hanh agreed to a lunch date. They married in 2000, and have two daughters, 8-year-old Chloe and 10-year-old Emma.

Both girls possess their mother’s eye for fashion, mixing styles and sketching outfits they’d someday like to create. On mother/daughter shopping pilgrimages Hanh encourages them to “buy only what you really love, don’t settle for something you just like, no matter the price.” When Hanh isn’t talking fashion, she’s playing badminton with the girls (their favorite pastime) or cooking weekly Saturday feasts for her extended family of more than 20. She also plans learning trips for the family, seeing “vacation as a time for the girls to get excited about new things.” They’ve made pasta in Venice, taken acting classes in New York, and watched whales in Vancouver.

Three years ago, Hanh launched her blog, Life in Travel, to chronicle her dual passions. Posts featuring her artful ensembles are shown alongside images of the family hiking and picking cherries in Portland. In fashion and life, she says, “You have to play and be adventurous, but not take it too seriously. Fashion is fun, but family is what’s really important.”

In Dallas Modern Luxury: The Travel Issue

Peek into My Bag

You don’t have a chance to see what I carry with me daily in my bag, but you’re about to. I usually prefer to carry a medium size bag rather than a big one because the bigger the bag the more junk I carry. I like to keep only my necessary things in my bag and make it simple. I only prefer a big size bag when it comes to travel for my carry-on. Yes, I’m attached to my mom and dad’s gifts, my husband’s photo (doesn’t show here), my kid’s pictures, our “best friend club” necklaces…things that I love to have with me wherever I go because these things are a part of my life.
Thank you Raya Ramsey from D magazine for this opportunity to share what is in my bag to D magazine’s readers! It is a great chance to inspire me to share this to my readers as well.
Hi my sweet readers! Please click here to see the article. I hope you enjoy it!
